I emailed Tom about the handles, and he replied:

Jim,
The handle are steam bent and are made to a universal size, i.e. the size that is most common. In other words, they we fit most axes, tho, as usual, will need to be "fitted" by the owner to his particular ax. The wood is second growth hickory as is the best for handles. If i remember correctly, I did "flame harden" and oil these handles.
