I'm certain this concept already exists under some obscure name in a foreign language, I'm hoping for a lead with which I can pursue joining options wink

Instead of chopping halfway through the poor rafter for birdsmouths, not to mention the top plate, a neat, narrow blind mortise trunneled to a tenon at the end of the post, and the lateral forces handled by an outermost stout purlin or upper row of horizontal ties between the posts. Seems like a possible way to avoid that uncomfortable junction of rafter, plate, and post at the same point in the frame.
