A rafter touching a post is not historic joinery. It is modern joinery.
Three way joints may not be strong joints.
I know you intend to have an engineer review your design, but if he has no experience in timber framing then you're paying for his education.
I would suggest you hire an experienced timber frame engineer. He has seen it before and knows how it works.
