I was hoping someone could tell me the allowable shear stress for commercial oak pegs used for joinery. I would rather not buy a whole book to find this one piece of data. My standard reference books show a shear strength of 125 lbs./sq. in. Instinct leads me to be believe this critical joining item is available in higher shear strengths. If not oak are there better woods for pegs?

I am a retired mechanical PE helping on a timeber frame garage. My friend has a large assortment of timber frame technical literature but this item is lacking.

Thanks in advance. Ted
