Hi- I just finished re-raising a ca 1870's granary frame of hewn oak and maple here in east central Wis. This frame- along with most all I've seen in this area- has 36" braces with 2" tenons which are not pegged. Is this to allow a bit of wiggle in high winds, or? Several of the braces had fallen out from- I assume- too much wiggle. I'm contemplating running 8" SIP screws into them at a right angle to the brace- through the tenon and into the intersecting post/girt/plate. Bad or good idea? Also- is there a way I can determine if this frame was square rule or scribe rule? I'd like to do a TTRAG report. Thanks!

I think, therefore I am (I think)..
